Yoo Seung-ho spoke about photography in GQ KOREA's video introducing the contents of his bag. The August 26 release showed two cameras among the items he normally uses.
Yoo explained that he brought his two cameras after being asked whether he could have a camera available for the recording. He also introduced the bag in which he carries film.
He was uncertain whether he started photography in his second or third year of high school. Some reviews described the third year, but that uncertainty in his own recollection should remain. The supported account is that he started during high school and continued photographing as a hobby.
Yoo said he did not immediately accept an invitation to hold a photography exhibition. Seeing himself as someone who casually enjoyed photography, he declined once. When another opportunity came, he sought opinions from professional photographers.
He described their advice as seeing it as an opportunity worth trying at least once. He then took his two cameras to the United States to photograph there. Newsen's review of the same video also mentioned plans to photograph during a Mongolia trip. A completed trip and a planned one should not both be presented as completed events.
Asked what he would photograph if he could use only one last roll of film, Yoo recalled cats he had spent time with. He said capturing himself and the cats in the same frame had been difficult. That question concerned a moment he wanted to preserve rather than technical equipment.
Reporting at the time announced the film-photography exhibition BLUE HOUR for October 3–11 at LAYER 7 in Seoul's Yongsan district. It was described as an exhibition of everyday and travel scenes.
Introducing individual objects in a bag connected naturally with when he began photography and how he decided to prepare an exhibition. Separating the questions about equipment, travel records and moments he wants to retain makes the conversation easier to follow.
