Plans for 2 projects involving actor Hayoung have taken shape 2 months after controversy arose over allegations about her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities. SBS removed the completed drama Seungsan Isseumnida from its first-half 2027 lineup. Netflix cast a new actor as nurse Cheon Jang-mi, the role Hayoung played in The Trauma Code, and confirmed that seasons 2 and 3 will be produced together.
Hayoung said on a variety show in August that her family had included doctors for 4 generations. Some viewers then speculated that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho, a doctor during the Japanese colonial period. Allegations about Ahn’s pro-Japanese activities drew on a 1918 article in Maeil Sinbo, a newspaper of the colonial government. Hayoung’s agency initially denied the allegations. A day later, it apologized, saying it had confirmed that Ahn appeared on a 1916 list of council members of the Daejeong Friendship Society. Hayoung apologized, saying she knew only fragments of her great-grandfather’s life from family accounts and had spoken proudly of him on several occasions. Hayoung said she would examine her family history and that period more closely and approach history more carefully, then suspended all activities.
Hayoung played rookie lawyer Yeo Sim-hee in Seungsan Isseumnida. The comic legal drama remakes the Japanese series Legal V and centers on a law office led by Kwon Baek, a former lawyer turned office manager played by Lee Je-hoon. Filming was nearly complete when the controversy began, and production finished with Hayoung in the cast. Views differed over whether to edit her scenes or consider the work of the other cast and crew. On October 19, SBS said it was considering scheduling options for the production, which involved many cast and crew members. It has not decided whether to air the drama in the second half of 2027.
Full Count is set to take the vacated slot in February 2027. The drama follows a struggle over a professional baseball manager’s job, with Kim Rae-won playing acting manager Hwang Jin-ho and Park Hoon playing pitching coach Jo Dong-hee.
Hayoung said she wanted to leave future seasons of The Trauma Code, and Netflix accepted her decision. Jeong Ye-in, formerly of Lovelyz, won the Cheon Jang-mi role through an audition. The new seasons follow Baek Kang-hyuk and the trauma team as they work to save patients amid larger disasters. Ju Ji-hoon, Choo Young-woo, Yoon Kyung-ho and Jung Jae-kwang are returning. Season 1 reached Netflix’s top 10 in 63 countries. Director Lee Do-yoon is writing season 2, while Lee and writer Tomasi are writing season 3.
