Jang Sung-kyu is a broadcaster. On October 15, he posted captured scenes of actor Kim Min from MBC’s '나 혼자 산다' on his personal social media alongside a message. Jang expressed his fondness for Kim and praised the production team’s ability to discover and cast distinctive people. He also mentioned that Kim was older than he was. Jang predicted that Kim would receive a newcomer award at this year’s entertainment awards.
In the October 2 episode of '나 혼자 산다', Kim had shown his daily life in an approximately 90-year-old house in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province. The broadcast showed him using a generator for electricity and groundwater for household water, as well as mixing cement himself to repair the house.
After the broadcast, some online users compared street-view images with the programme and questioned whether scenes of his life had been staged. They pointed out that the yard looked overgrown in July street-view images but tidy on the broadcast. Others questioned the use of a generator because there were utility poles nearby.
In a media interview on October 6, Kim denied that there had been staging or a setup. He explained that the house held memories of acquaintances he regarded like family, and that he was repairing it gradually while preserving as much of its original appearance as possible. On October 7, the production team also said that the house was Kim’s actual home and that it had neither prepared the location separately for filming nor staged situations.
Sports Chosun noted that the programme’s production team had previously apologised after a staging controversy over Jun Hyun-moo’s spontaneous-trip episode. There were also counterarguments. An online user who described themselves as a Korea Electric Power Corporation employee cited the absence of a visible electricity meter and suggested that the house might actually have been disconnected from the power supply. Fellow actor Park Won-bin also defended Kim on social media.
In the 굿데이터코퍼레이션 펀덱스 rankings cited by the article, Kim placed first for two consecutive weeks among TV non-drama performers in the first and second weeks of October.
As activity background separate from this post, an October 10 News1 report described Jang as appearing in '꼬리에 꼬리를 무는 이야기' and '하나부터 열까지'. The same report said he had worked as an archery commentator for KBS’s coverage of the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games.
