Wonji’s Singapore trip appeared in the first episode of Earth Marble 4, which aired on October 17. Wonji complained about lodging that had not been cleaned, had a broken air conditioner and smelled of cigarettes and mold. She was then directed to a hotel at another branch. In the studio, she recalled Pani Bottle sleeping at a Singapore airport in season 1 and said the airport would have been preferable to that lodging.
Wonji framed the trip as a “growth diary” and tried things she would not normally do. Recalling that she had shared lodging with staff in earlier seasons, Wonji said she wanted a room to herself this time. After raising the lodging complaint, she also took part in a challenge to get 3 restaurant recommendations from local people. Wonji got a kaya toast recommendation from a hotel employee and a chili crab restaurant recommendation from a taxi driver. Wonji moved past her reluctance toward city tours and took a perspective photo at the Merlion statue. In the picture, she appeared to catch the statue’s stream of water in her mouth.
The premiere presented the first round of trips by Wonji, KwakTube and Pani Bottle as a “travel film festival.” Viewers, travel partners and experts evaluate their travel videos to determine the final result. The season’s travel board includes new destinations, 28 countries not visited in earlier seasons and special spaces. New host Kyuhyun said he would need 2 weeks to prepare for the trio’s spontaneous style of travel.
KwakTube booked a glacier tour in New Zealand, a country he had visited before, hoping to film something different. Only after a 20-hour flight did he learn that its departure point was 3 and a half hours from his lodging each way, with no early shuttle available. The booking could not be canceled, and he heard there was an 80% chance that weather would keep the helicopter grounded the next day. He booked another tour departing near his lodging, but worsening weather canceled all the glacier tours the following day. He asked viewers to see how the trip would turn out.
Pani Bottle traveled about 7,100 kilometers over 29 hours without staying at lodging to try to film bioluminescent plankton off Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives. He changed planes 4 times and took a boat 3 times along the way. He entered the sea at night and disturbed the water but did not capture the plankton on camera. Kyuhyun brought up a report of plentiful plankton off Korea’s west coast, while Pani Bottle looked at the night sky and said he would show something else in the next episode. Earth Marble 4 airs Saturdays at 7:50 p.m. on ENA.
